Yes, your privacy is our top priority. We provide HIPAA-level security and your health data is always stored in a de-identified form so that no one can identify you as the patient. Additionally, your identity is never released to researchers when you participate in a study.  Joined Bio is the only one who can re-identify you and we only do that when we need to reach you about study matches.  

When you sign up with Joined Bio, you can select what types of studies you would like to hear about (e.g. biospecimen, data, surveys and focus groups). These preferences can be updated at any time in your account. When there is a study match based upon these preferences, you are presented with the option to participate in the study or not. In other words, you are in control both of what types of studies get presented to you as well as what types of studies to participate in.

Researchers need all types of samples, including blood, urine, stool, cheek swabs, nasal swabs, hair, nails, skin scrapings or tapings, and other specimens that are easy to collect in your home.

We provide everything you need.  If you’re participating in a blood collection, we will send a trained phlebotomist (a professional who collects blood samples) to your home or other location of your choice.  If you’re participating in a specimen collection that you can do yourself, we will send you specimen collection kits with clear instructions about how to use them.

Samples can be collected at home in about 10 minutes.

Unless otherwise specified in research requirements, no preparations are required prior to your sample collection.  

Right now, when you match up to a study, we will contact you directly via email, phone, or text about participating in it and will work with you to schedule a time that is convenient to you if a specimen collection needed.  In the future, you will have the ability to schedule collections yourself in our app.

Your samples are used by verified research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, or diagnostic companies working on understanding diseases and on the development of new drugs or tests.

No, your samples are de-identified when they are sent to the researcher so researchers have no way of re-identifying you with any test results or other research done on your samples.

There is never a charge to you for participating in our research studies and you never need insurance.  All costs are paid for by the research sponsor.
